My First Ever Three-Things Thursday

Hey, I'm so glad you found my new blog. The old one was having formatting issues and was ugly, and it made me not want to post on it for, like, a year. To get a feel for where I'm going with this site and to see the new blog schedule, have a look at the Welcome page. Thanks!

Today's Three-Things Thursday theme is brought to you by . . . the Utah writing community. For those who don't know, there are a few YA and children's writers living in Utah. Like, maybe a hundred. Or a hundred thousand. I really don't know. But it's awesome to be a writer here
because
1. I don't feel sad when I enter blog contests to win autographed novels and lose. The odds of my seeing the authors of most of my favorite books at the local bookstore in the near future are much higher than the odds of my winning any kind of contest ever.

2. I get to run into old high school friends at local writer conferences, friends I didn't even know were writers, because the odds are, whether I knew it or not, my old high school friends have become writers since I last saw them.

3. I know it's only a matter of time before I publish something I'm proud of because practically everyone I know has already done it. Publishing books is still elusive and exciting, of course, but not in a winning-the-Olympic-gold-medal sort of way. More like finding-size-10.5-flat-shoes kind of way. Hard, but not impossible. Otherwise I'd be barefoot.
If you live in a less writerly place, I don't mean to be braggy. I just mean to convince you to move here.

Do you have a writing community you love? Or a book club? Or an artists'-night-out club? Or a lunch club? If so, what are your three favorite things about being part of it?

Good to see you, Jeni! Glad you're in my community. :)

Three things I love about my book club:
1. Reading (and liking) books I would have never picked up otherwise.
2. Gossiping with the gals and hearing the neighborhood news.
3. Eating treats.

I really get a lot out of book club, don't I?

I'm glad you're back to blogging!

Ooh, treats. I need to find a club like that.

And I agree about the books I wouldn't have picked up otherwise. I've had two short stints in book clubs (I kept getting kicked out.) (Just kidding.) I read one of my favorites to this day in a book club.

There really is an amazing community here. :) Who else from school has published? I'm curious!

Michelle, I don't know if these girls have published yet, but I saw Maggie Proctor's older sister KC and Emily Burton at WIFYR. Crazy, no?
