Today's Three-Things Thursday theme is brought to you by . . . the Utah writing community. For those who don't know, there are a few YA and children's writers living in Utah. Like, maybe a hundred. Or a hundred thousand. I really don't know. But it's awesome to be a writer here
1. I don't feel sad when I enter blog contests to win autographed novels and lose. The odds of my seeing the authors of most of my favorite books at the local bookstore in the near future are much higher than the odds of my winning any kind of contest ever.If you live in a less writerly place, I don't mean to be braggy. I just mean to convince you to move here.
2. I get to run into old high school friends at local writer conferences, friends I didn't even know were writers, because the odds are, whether I knew it or not, my old high school friends have become writers since I last saw them.
3. I know it's only a matter of time before I publish something I'm proud of because practically everyone I know has already done it. Publishing books is still elusive and exciting, of course, but not in a winning-the-Olympic-gold-medal sort of way. More like finding-size-10.5-flat-shoes kind of way. Hard, but not impossible. Otherwise I'd be barefoot.
Do you have a writing community you love? Or a book club? Or an artists'-night-out club? Or a lunch club? If so, what are your three favorite things about being part of it?
